THE LATINA NARRATIVE: RECLAIMED.

ABOUT YO SOY LOLA

To our LOLA Community

This year has been, without a doubt, one of the most challenging and turbulent times we have experienced; both on the national scale and internally at Yo Soy LOLA. In a world where we have experienced multiple pandemics — the current health crisis, the continuous killings of Black and Brown people without justice, the upcoming election, the economic recession, and the declining state of the climate — our lives, have without a doubt, been rocked. It feels imperative to pause, reflect, and listen.

Yo Soy LOLA has accomplished so much in the last 3 years including the theater gala events, scholarship awards, poetry nights, panels, and art galleries. It took countless hours of previous committee members, artists, volunteers, and community partners to make all of that happen. At the beginning of this year, the Yo Soy LOLA leadership committed to a pause from our annual gala event. A new leadership committee was formed in March with the intention to engage in an internal restructuring process when COVID-19 put all of our lives on hold. We've learned how to coexist online, visit writingservice.essayhave.com/essays-for-sale/ to get the services we need, and simply survive in this new reality. The new board was committed to continuing to bring the spirit of LOLA to our community and hosted LOLArte virtually, in April. In the months since then, we have continued to interrogate our priorities as we are forced to reframe what community and art can look like in this time. We’ve all been fighting the good fight and we are now tired. We must rest.

With all this in mind, the Yo Soy LOLA committee has made the difficult decision to take a break. We will not be engaging on social media or planning virtual events until the spring of 2021. We will then host a community forum to decide the future of Yo Soy LOLA together. Please share your contact information with us via this form if you are interested in being a part of that conversation.

For now, we are focusing on taking care of our bodies and our loved ones. We are taking a step back to heal ourselves before we can return to fostering community through art. This is an opportunity to rest and reframe, knowing that LOLA may not be the same as it once was. We are grieving with you and we are practicing holding boundaries.

We thank you for allowing us to share stories, connect and create with you all.
